Many people don’t think of Thanksgiving as the most alcohol-laden holiday on the calendar. But there will be plenty of opportunities to imbibe throughout the long Thanksgiving weekend. In addition to any spirits that might accompany the turkey day feast, there’s Saturday’s Apple Cup college football game between Washington and Washington State at 4:30pm, as well as the Seahawks’ home game Sunday afternoon against the Redskins at 1pm. So there may be lots of party-goers out and about all weekend long in Seattle.
As a result, law enforcement authorities are putting extra DUI patrols on the roads throughout King County from Wednesday through Saturday. In addition, there will be extra enforcement areas in certain parts of the county. Target Zero teams will be stationed in Kent and Renton in southern King County from Friday at 8pm until Sunday morning at 4am. And additional patrols will be out on the streets of SODO and downtown Seattle throughout the entire day on both Saturday and Sunday (watching for intoxicated football fans).
The bottom line: don’t think that just because Thanksgiving doesn’t have the festive reputation as New Year’s Eve, St. Patrick’s Day, or Independence Day that there won’t be a police presence looking to bust drunk drivers. So take the necessary steps to avoid an unplanned police encounter: mix in food with your adult beverages, know your limits, and have a designated driver.
And if you are accused of driving under the influence, be sure to contact a qualified DUI attorney as soon as possible. We are open 24/7 and our number is 206.382-9200. Happy Turkey Day!
