The Portable Breathalyzer Test (PBT)
The Portable Breathalyzer Test (PBT) is exactly what it sounds like, it is a small handheld breathalyzer machine that DUI officer’s sometimes request you blow into so they can get a preliminary breath reading from you.
Keep in Mind….
these tests are extremely unreliable but officer’s can still place you under arrest despite this fact. The test is voluntary and does not satisfy any court requirement. Unless you really have not had any alcohol in your mouth for the past day, it is probably a good idea to NOT take the portable breathalyzer test. If an officer requests that you take a portable breathalyzer test, you have the option to politely decline and say you are willing to take a breath test back at the station.
Being pulled over for DUI can be a stressful, embarrassing and a frightening event. If you are reading this after your DUI citation and you blew into the portable breathalyzer test it is important to speak with an experienced DUI attorney who can explain the consequences you may be facing.
